The Marble Falls High School boys basketball team lost to Lampasas 45-31 Jan. 24 in District 24-4A play.

The Mustangs (14-10, 4-3) led 14-11 after the first quarter but scored a total of 17 points in the next three periods.

“I felt like we got the shots we wanted,” head coach John Berkman said. “We played well enough on defense. We did not convert on the other end.”

He noted the Mustangs had 10 turnovers and the Badgers were tough on defensive rebounding.

“They did limit us to one shot,” the coach said.

Berkman compared the shooting woes to what happens in baseball to power hitters.

“Every now and then baseball players go through a hitting slump,” he said.

Senior guard Tidus Willie led with 13 points followed by sophomore guard Beckett Berkman with 11, sophomore forward Marc Barrios added 3, senior forward Garen Jones and junior post Kaleb Bielfeldt each finished with 2.

Lampasas (21-8, 7-1) and Georgetown Gateway (15-7, 7-1) sit atop of the district standings with the Mustangs in third and Burnet (15-14, 4-4) in fourth.

Marble Falls is at Gateway Tuesday, Jan. 26, with the freshmen playing at 5 p.m., the junior varsity at 6:15 p.m., and the varsity at 8 p.m.

“We have a chance to gain ground,” Berkman said. “There’s still a lot of basketball to play. We have to keep plugging away. We are in good shape.”
